A week after the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, the Beth Zion synagogue invites Oshawa to heal.
The sermon, discussion and commemoration will be held Saturday Nov. 3 at the Beth Zion synagogue located at 144 King St. E. in Oshawa.
The Beth Zion has posted details on their social media using the hashtag #showupforshabbat. Everyone from the community is allowed to attend and are encouraged to come to the commemoration and discussion.
Everyone is invited to attend the entire sermon, including the prayers.
The Beth Zion synagogue isn’t the only one bringing the community together for this tragedy. Earlier this week, the Chabad of Durham Region held a public memorial tribute Tuesday for the victims of the shooting.
In an email from Rabbi Tzali Borenstein of the Chabad of Durham Region, he said their message is “to fight hate with love, love will always win.”
Eleven people died after a man allegedly stormed the Tree of Life synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighbourhood of Pittsburgh and opened fire. Robert Bowers, 46, was later arrested and charged with the crimes.
Bowers allegedly made anti-Semitic comments about Jews on his social media, according to a report by CNN.
Bowers has been charged in 44-counts of hate crime indictments, according to CNN. He has since plead not guilty as of today.
The Beth Zion synagogue will hold a sermon including Shabbat prayers and a Torah service from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a discussion and commemoration from 11 a.m. to noon. Link to story
