WHITBY — As the weather begins to warm up, thoughts soon turn to a frenzy. A Food Truck Frenzy, that is!

Organized by the Rotary Club of Whitby, the Food Truck Frenzy will take place on May 25 and 26 at Iroquois Park Grounds in Whitby.

“We have 30-plus food trucks and some new food trucks attending this year,” said Keith Jasper, who helps manage advertising for the event. “We’re right across the board from pizza to veal sandwiches,” adding that there will also be diary-free, gluten-free and even vegan options at this year's charitable event.

All of the proceeds from the event support multiple local charities across Durham Region.

“Our event keeps getting better each year. What started five years ago as a celebration of food truck fare, and we have now grown into the finest foodie festival in the Durham Region.

We’ve combined the best street food from across the GTA, talented local artisans and performance artists, and an amazing selection of local artisans, including five butter tart vendors, to create a weekend-long festival for families and foodies. There isn’t a better place to get your food on!” Geno Diraddo of the Rotary Club of Whitby said in a press release.

Aside from having a wide range of cuisines to try, the Food Truck Frenzy will also feature multiple musical performers across musical platforms from pop to classic rock, such as the Salk Road Band and Backspin.

There will also be country, R&B and kid-friendly performances, as well as other activities.

Unlike previous years, which asked for a nonspecified donation for admission, this year’s festival will feature a set admission rate, all of which will go to the multiple charities that the event supports; some of these charities include Ontario Shores Foundation and Grandview Children’s Centre.

“You’re not just buying a cheeseburger, you’re also buying say, three-wheel chairs,” said Jasper.

The Food Truck Frenzy will begin on Saturday, May 25 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, May 26 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
